Powell designs its wooden instruments to be beautiful, resonant, and responsive.  Extensive efforts are also made to minimize the possibility of cracking. 

Selectivity

The artisans who make Powell's wooden flutes and piccolos meticulously inspect each piece of wood at every stage of work.  As a result, a large percentage of the wood purchased for use in wooden instruments is discarded.  This attention assures an instrument that will be graceful in appearance and physically stable, an important consideration for the production of consistent tonal qualities and intonation.  All of Powell's wooden instruments come with a one-year warranty against cracking.
