Through a patented fusion process, Powell produces flute tubing made of interlocking layers of gold and silver. Known as Aurumite, this material combines the projection of silver with the warmth of gold. Aurumite 9k flutes have 9k rose gold on the exterior of the tubing, and sterling silver on the interior.

The Handmade Conservatory model is a descendant of Mr. Powell's original Commercial model. All Conservatory flutes have French pointed arms, 10k gold wire springs, the Powell Scale and drawn tone holes.

In 2008 Powell implemented a similarly elegant and effective design to eliminate pins on the right hand of its Custom flutes. Because of very positive customer response, Powell introduced the pinless Handmade Conservatory model flute at Musikmesse in April, 2009.

The new, pinless, Conservatory flute offers the following benefits, along with all the other virtues of a Powell flute:
