Christine Murphy

Assistant Principal Flute of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

Christine Murphy was appointed Assistant Principal Flute of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 2019 by Music Director Marin Alsop. Prior to her appointment, Christine earned a Masters of Music from Rice University and a Bachelors degree in Political Science from Columbia University where she participated in the Columbia-Juilliard Exchange program. As an orchestral performer, Christine has performed with Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony, and the San Antonio Symphony among others. She has received top prizes from organizations including National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts, the National Flute Club, the Society of American Musicians, and the Chicago Flute Club. Christine has appeared as a soloist on stages including the Kennedy Center and Chicago’s Symphony Hall, and as well as performing multiple times on national radio. A native of Park Ridge, Illinois, Christine began playing the flute at the age of 7. Her primary teachers include Leone Buyse, Robert Langevin, Hideko Amano, and Donald Peck. Outside of music, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her newly adopted puppy, Mia.
