Chaeyeon You

Flutist Chaeyeon You has captivated audiences with her philosophical musical insight and refined artistry. She began playing the flute at the age of twelve, studying at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts before entering Seoul Arts High School. Shortly thereafter, she was admitted early to the Korea National University of Arts, where she graduated in 2022, receiving the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at the Berlin University of the Arts.
You’s orchestral career has developed rapidly: she performed as a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and later with the Bayerisches Staatsorchester (Hermann-Levi-Akademie) before being appointed Principal Flutist of the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg in 2024, where she now holds tenure.
Her rise to prominence began only three years after starting the flute, with top prizes at the Ewha-Kyung Hyang and Korea Herald Competitions. She went on to win 1st Prize at the Seoul National University National Wind Competition, the Silver Prize at the KBS–KEPCO Music Competition, and the Rising Star Award at the Gonjiam Flute Festival. On the international stage, she achieved major acclaim in 2019, becoming the youngest-ever 1st Prize winner at the 71st Prague Spring International Music Competition, and also winning the Vienna New Year’s Concert International Music Competition (Winds).
Her solo appearances include a Kumho Young Artist Recital (2020), performances with the KBS Symphony Orchestra, Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, and KNUA Wind Orchestra, as well as invitations to the TLI Chamber Music Festival and the Prague Spring Winners’ Recital. In Korea, she continues to be active as a recitalist and soloist, appearing in the Hanwha Life 11 o’clock Concert (2023) and the Opening Concert of the Seoul International Music Festival (2025).
With a solid foundation in technical mastery and interpretative depth, Chaeyeon Yoo is establishing herself as one of the most promising flutists of her generation, equally at home on international stages and in her native Korea.
